The properties of medicinal plants as described in Vedic literatures particularly in Rig Veda (1500–1000 B.C.) and Adharva Veda (1000–900 B.C.) are perhaps the first ever written documents available in the history of medicine.
Traditional Indian medicine is one of the oldest medical sciences in the world. Ayurveda, the most widely used system in traditional Indian medicine, emphasizes holistic medicine, which takes the body, mind, and spirit as a whole. It is based on the principle that human beings achieve physical, mental, and emotional health through harmonious.
Ayurveda, a comprehensive, all-natural healthcare system with roots in India's pre-Vedic era, places a stronger emphasis on preventive care than on curative treatment. In the modern healthcare industry, the idea of integrative medicine is growing in popularity, especially for the treatment of chronic lifestyle diseases like neurological disorders.
It is now known that alchemy (the older form of chemistry) had made great strides in India. Ayurveda, which used a variety of minerals, also played an important role in the development of chemistry. It developed as iatrochemistry, which was closely related to medicine. The two main incentives for the development of chemistry were the age-old desires of human beings: to live forever and to get rich. Much of chemistry grew out of the early efforts to develop an elixir and to turn base metals into gold. It is also interesting to note that Needham claimed that earliest distillation of alcohol is attested to through the archaeological finds at Taxila. In fact, the ancient name of alcohol is khola, which sounds so similar to it!
The word alchemy is described as: ‘The process for extracting the life force from plants.’ The term refers to the complementary processes of destruction and creation of the universe; and reflects the alchemical formula of rasyana or elixir.
In Sanskrit, the word alchemy comes from `AMRIT’ which means elixirs or Rasyanas which are equivalent of Amrit for people and are considered the highest form of herbal preparation in the old age. Rasyana making process is also equivalent to alchemy unlike many modern methods rooted in Asian preparation. Alchemy experts were very careful performing Asian methods without altering it. The complex compound is greater than sum of individual. Rasyana or elixir preparation in specific is synergism. It has its own specific effects but together they produce a synergetic effect than that of individual elixirs. The importance in the art of alchemy is to prepare an alchemically active compound that works simultaneously in the body, mind and soul.
Spagyric Medicine a long tradition in Germany, where it is synonymous of reliability and high quality in the health sector, In Spagyric, two Greek words are hidden; spao means to draw out, to divide and ageiro which means to gather, to bind, to join. These two concepts form the foundation of every genuine alchemical work.
The spagyrist assumes that within the life force three different effects are at work, the principles of Sal, Sulfur and Mercur. These do not refer to the chemical substances, but rather to the characteristics of these elements, which can in turn be found in everything alive. Sal stands for the materialising, earth-like principle, Sulfur for the soulful, fiery one and Mercur for the invigorating, spiritual one, which stands and mediates between the first two. In human beings, they find expression as body, mind and soul, which only in their combination make up the human being and which are in close interaction with each other.
Consequently, Paracelsus relates the term "ars spagirica" to the art – with alchemistic procedures – of separating the valuable from the impure and of preparing medicines of increased efficacy by combining the substances so acquired.
Herbalism is the tradition of studying and using herbs for their healing properties. Growing freely in the natural world, the term ‘herb’ refers to every part of the plant, from the roots to the flowers. Here we will explore how herbalism can form part of your wellness routine and how a herbalist can support you.
Herbal medicine is plant-based medicine and is potentially the oldest form of medicine we know of. A huge variety of plants can be used in a medicinal way, with each part of the plant having different medicinal qualities and requiring different approaches. Often, both fresh and dried plant parts can be used, but this will depend on the herb.
Herbs are made up of complex constituents that have unique qualities. These qualities can support the body to heal and overcome illness. All herbs will have their own uses and trained herbalists will be able to recommend the appropriate herb for the condition you’re seeking help with.
The 7 Chakras are the energy centres in our body in which energy flows through.
The word 'chakra' is derived from the sanskrit word meaning 'wheel'. Literally translated from the Hindi it means 'Wheel of spinning Energy'.
A chakra is like a whirling, vortex-like, powerhouse of energy.
You can think of chakras as invisible, rechargeable batteries.
The seven chakras are connected to different glands and organs in the body and are responsible for uniform distribution of “Chi” (also called “Qi” or Praana or life energy) through them.
When there is a disruption in this life energy or a blockage in any one or more Chakras, the individual may suffer from health or mental issues.
